Build Immunity Protect Your Family

NutritionMarch28

We are currently faced with a coronavirus pandemic. Boosting our immune system has rarely felt more urgent, but beyond eating more oranges and hoping for the best, what else can we do?

Wash your hands religiously for 20 seconds, sneeze into your elbow, avoid touching your face, stay 1.5 metres away from all other people and, as a last resort, self-quarantine for 14 days with only your emergency rations for company. If you want to avoid getting COVID19, all of these are a good idea. But ultimately, one of the most important things standing between you and a deadly bout of COVID19 is your immune system.

As well as protecting yourself from the virus on the outside, you can also build up your defences from the inside by strengthening your immune system.

One thing that you can control immediately is the health of the trillions of microbes living in your gut, collectively known as the microbiome.

Recent research has shown that the gut microbiome plays an essential role in the body’s immune response to infection and in maintaining overall health.

If you want to fix your health and improve your immunity, you need to start with your gut. This place houses at least 70 percent of all cells that make up your immune system.

There is good news, with every bite of food you take, you can change your gut microbiome.

The best way to increase microbiome diversity is by eating plenty of low sugar fruit, high fibre vegetables, nuts, seeds, healthy fats like high-quality extra virgin olive oil and lean meat or fish. Avoid alcohol, sweets, sugary drinks, and artificial sweeteners or other additives.

In healthy people, there is a diverse array of organisms. In an unhealthy individual, there’s much less diversity, and there seems to be an increase of bacteria and viruses we associate with disease.

In today’s diet we lack a lot of fibre, this is what the good guys love. Think of fibre as a shower for your insides. When we have a diet high in fibre, the good guys can do their job - and your digestion, immune function, mental function, and even your mood reap the benefits. Less than 5% of us get the recommended 25-30 grams of fibre per day! We are literally starving the good bacteria! Because we don’t eat enough fibre, Fibremax™ is your detoxing superhero! Fibre is essential for a healthy digestive tract and immune system.

You can also support your microbiome by regularly eating natural yoghurt, which contains live microbes also called probiotics. Probiotics are tiny organisms that your gut loves. Probiotics are often called ‘good bacteria’ because they help keep your gut healthy. You can supplement probiotics with Alpha Lipid™ Lifeline™ Colostrum which contains natural antibodies that build immunity through gut health.

So, when we have a healthy gut, it means our bodies have a natural defence system giving us the resistance we need to fight off bugs and viral infections.
